It’s been too long

1aGoodness me, I can’t even believe how long it has been since I have blogged. Far. Too. Long. I’m not really sure what my excuse is. The winter months have just had me watching a lot of Buffy and a lot of Daria, doing a lot of crafting and some home improvement. But mainly I’ve been snuggling under a blanket with a husband and/or kitty.

I decided that to make return after so long I would have to do it in style and so here are our pro wedding pics. Massive thanks to the beautiful Grace Elkin for capturing our big day at Halstead House.

5Our colour scheme was pink and green of every shade – I tried to make sure we went for brights over pastels but a few pastel shades managed to sneak in there.

1One of the best parts of our day was the first look photo session we did. It was so calming to spend a little time together before the ceremony to enjoy the farm, and to get a lot of our couple shots out of the way so we could spend the rest of the day with our guests.

7“It must be love” by Madness was our theme for the day. We used it for processional, and recessional performed very kindly by Andy’s best man on the guitar. It was also featured in the band’s set during the reception (again fronted by Andy’s best man).

11For anyone else planning a wedding right now I guess my advice would be to make use of Google Docs, it definitely made planning a breeze for us! And, don’t sweat the last minute things – there will always be something you remember at the final hour but that says to me that it really wasn’t that important in the first place, so forget about it. Oh, and good luck!

Burger and fries

Before the wedding we had some belated engagement photos taken by my fellow-Dolly Monika. I featured some sneek peak photos a few months ago but I wanted to share my favourites from the full collection so here they are.

(Un)subscribe

Today (a little sadly) I will be unsubscribing to the fabulous wedding blogs that I have followed since Christmas, not because I don’t want to follow them anymore but because I’m no longer a bride-to-be and well, I don’t think Andy would be too keen if I started planning another whole wedding again. One of Andy’s biggest reliefs after the wedding was that we didn’t have to plan one anymore.

Back in January, when we first got engaged I posted a list of the sites that I planned to subscribe to and the list grew and grew as we got closer to the big day.

  • Ruffled blog – the weddings featured here are all visually stunning, every post that I visited was so aspirational and very modern.
  • 100 Layer Cake has more highly creative weddings to peruse on Layer Cake. I found the posts great for classicly styled weddings with hints of DIY, bright pops of colour and beautiful florals.
  • Green Wedding Shoes consistently had the most posts that I loved and often bookmarked. Lots of vintage influence and rustic charm. Heaps of outdoor ceremonies to drool over. I love the call outs that Green Wedding Shoes does on each post where the couple share extra details and tips for planning.
  • Once Wed – I love once wed for their DIY and advice posts, their ideas were always the best – creative with lovely results and easy to achieve. I referred back to their Watermelon inspiration board all the way through our planning stages.
  • Rock n Roll Bride feature such a variety of wedding styles, all really unique to the couple and I found so many of them to be inspirational to our wedding, even if that inspiration was just that we should do it our way. The Thursday Treats series became one of my favourite things to read because it summarises some of the best wedding-related posts from across the blogosphere from the past week.
  • Adore by Chloe – I started to follow Chloe for her lovely and simple DIY projects, as well as the fact that Chloe is local to me so could recommend some fantastic suppliers.
  • Utterly Engaged is an online magazine as opposed to a blog and it was nice to have a bit of relief to the typical blog posts. The only down side is that you can’t really pin or share the photos from the magazine pages but every issue has been stunning.
  • Save the Date magazine is a print mag that is based on the East Midlands and features lots of great local suppliers and real weddings from the local area. Their Wedding Event with a Difference was the only wedding fair we went to and I still think it was the best choice for the area we live in. Through Save the Date’s blog we also found Peach Blossom who supplied many of our decorations and our videographers, Enter The Treehouse.

I wholly recommend all of these sites for any bride-to-be, they will inspire and delight you along every step of the way and don’t forget to take a look through their archives too because many give excellent advice on all areas of wedding planning.

Wedded Waltons

Well hello!! It has been far too long since I posted. Crazy long. Ok, so what have you been up to? Oh, you want to see photos from the wedding? OK!

Each order of service came in a little bag with a tissue “for happy tears” – you might recognise that idea from one of my earlier posts that featured Smitten On Paper’s blog.

The bridesmaids dresses were made by my sister (based on this dress pattern) and the flowers were all done by my mum. We had hoped to use flowers from our gardens, and although that worked perfectly for the table centres, my mum bought flowers for the bouquets that would last all day out of water.

The weather on the day was a little too cool and windy for the outdoor ceremony that we planned so we decided to switch to the small barn at the venue which turned out to be perfectly intimate. We went outside afterwards to take advantage of the gorgeous landscape for the family and formal shots.

After a few drinks in the bar we headed into the reception barn which looked stunning covered in fairy lights, bunting and ribbon curtains. I’m so glad we decided to hire chairs instead of just chair covers, they looked great with the handmade cushions.

The dessert buffet made a huge impact and although at first looked too beautiful to eat soon everyone was digging in to the cakes (so many cakes!), cupcakes, cake pops, macarons, sweets and cheese board. I would fully recommend this is as an alternative to the traditional savoury evening buffet, it was one of the best decisions we made.

These are some of my favourite shots from the day, all taken by guests and posted on Facebook. We’ll have the professional shots very soon, can’t wait!

I also have all of the engagement shots now. I’ve offered them to a couple of wedding blogs but if they aren’t picked up then I’ll post them here next week, in the mean time I’m working on a honeymoon post.

Vendorific

I just wanted to give a shout out to two of my fabulous vendors who’ve been posting pics on Facebook of the custom things they’ve been creating for our wedding.

The first is Lorna Dunn Signage who has created these gorgeous chalk signage boards for us. She’s also created another that says “Let’s Celebrate”. I love hand lettering and chalk is so big right now with artists such as Dana Tanamachi, it would be a crime not to have some hand lettering wherever I can. Check out Lorna on Facebook for more beautiful examples and contact details for your next party or event (she offers calligraphy too!).

This is a snapshot of our macaroons resting before they are popped into the oven by the fabulous Candy Cakeory. They might appear bright but the colour will fade once cooked unfortunately – however, the brighter the better! The brightest colours of macaroons are the most luxurious. I can’t wait to feast on these beauties.

I’m feeling pretty tired tonight, I’ve banged my head and burned my wrist within and hour, but just trying to finish everything up ready for Sunday’s set up and rehearsal.

Right now I’m waiting for the wedding cake to cool before I ship it over to Candy Cakeory tomorrow morning so she can frost it to match the cupcakes. We were planning on buying a fruit cake off the shelf and then having it frosted but we decided that buttercream on top of royal icing would be too likely to slip and could taste pretty gross. Instead we have a fruit cake which we’ll cut up, plus a deliciously DIY sponge.

Less than 70 hours to go!

What day is it?

Excuse me for being so quiet, I just had to check what day it is. It’s wedding central right here. Andy and I took leave from work as of Wednesday to focus on everything that we want crafted for the wedding.

My mum has also been here every day except Monday making paper flowers, sewing cushions, cleaning jars, cutting out menus and stuffing bags. These photos are a few sneak peeks of what we’ve been up to.

We did find time today to host a little picnic with my flower girl Clementine and her big brother Morley. Clem arrived dressed as a ballerina and proceeded to steal and take a bite out of almost everyone else’s food at the picnic – it was hilarious.

Today was the perfect distraction to the dark shadow that has appeared in the shape of my dad. My not-invited, not-welcome dad. But of course he has butted in just at the right point to stress me out. More on that perhaps in another blog… I’ve played it very safe with my blogging in the run up to the wedding so as to not upset any family members but it’s becoming too much to keep it all in.

Table numbers

We’ve been madly designing, printing and putting together all of our stationary today. We’ve chosen 3D numbers for the tables from Decopatch but this design would have fit perfectly with the rest of our designs – it’s even the same font we have used. So simple and effective, just like the rest of this wedding photographed by Birds of a Feather (check out the beautifully  mismatched vintage chairs).

3 weeks to go

Or, two and half weeks now.

  • Confetti bags are done, and I love them (see above).
  • I had my bridal hair trial today by the fabulous Pin Curls and Pompadours – I’m taking photos every hour to see how it lasts.
  • We’re finalising the order of service with our celebrant, hopefully I can get them printed early next week.
  • Menus are designed, we just need to go to Staples to print them.

But, the biggest things for this week is our hen/stag parties. I’ll be having a BBQ/laser quest trip (depending on the weather) with a Mermaid theme – lots of sequins required. Andy will be going out with his mates for a lot of curry and beer. They might not sound very exciting but just right for us.

Milkshake

Last Saturday our fabulous friend Monika took some belated engagement photos for us. We headed down to a diner in Leicester and took some fun shots while we ate burgers and milkshake. Afterwards, we walked through the University campus and the park taking a few shots along the way.

Here’s a few of the awesome shots she took; a sneak peek of the full set which will go up on our wedding site once the set is complete.
